Louisiana Move-Out Checklist for Security Deposits

A practical Louisiana move-out checklist for renters who want to protect their deposit and preserve forwarding-address and demand proof.

Before you leave

Gather your lease, deposit amount, move-in photos, and any repair or condition messages.

If the landlord has a move-out process, follow it and keep proof that you did.

Return possession clearly

Document when you returned keys, vacated the rental, or otherwise gave possession back.

Take photos or video after your belongings are out.

Give a forwarding address

Louisiana says the tenant shall furnish a forwarding address at lease termination.

Give the address in writing and keep proof. This protects the cleanest record for the refund or itemized statement.

If the deposit is not handled

If the landlord does not return the deposit or send a proper itemized statement within one month after lease termination, send a written demand and keep proof.
