The most important proof
For Louisiana, keep proof of your forwarding address and written demand.
The forwarding address matters at lease termination. The written demand matters if the landlord does not return the deposit or send a proper itemized statement.
Keep the timeline
Save proof of:
- when the lease terminated
- when you returned possession or keys
- when you gave a forwarding address
- when the landlord sent any refund or itemized statement
- when you sent written demand
Keep condition evidence
Save move-in photos, move-out photos, videos, inspection notes, repair requests, cleaning records, and messages about the unit's condition.
Those records help evaluate claims of tenant default or unreasonable wear.
Keep money records
Save the lease, deposit receipt, payment records, itemized statement, refund check, written demand, and all landlord responses.
